Photo > Modern Mythos

Western society is the bastard child of ancient Roman culture. The latter a reimagining of ancient Greek culture. This series is again a reinvention of Roman deities and demigods viewed through the lens of modern irreverence. This ongoing work is meant to explore and highlight the contrast between classical ideals and contemporary social automation. The modus operandi being: subversion of traditional imagery and art concepts by means of simplification and demystification. Modern Mythos challenges traditional concepts and tropes in classical western art by juxtaposing them with current ideology and imagery. Cupid sends texts instead of hurling arrows. Diana no longer hunts, but instead orders pizza. Venus seductively floats in the ocean in search of an even tan. The Faun's natural stomping grounds are replaced by garbage heaps and the relics of society. The mythos is lazy and tired. The characters, an empty shell of what they once were. Welcome to the modern age.
