FIRMAMENT
fir· ma· ment | \ ˈfər-mə-mənt\
1 : the vault or arch of the sky : HEAVENS
2 : the expanse of space that seems to be over the earth like a dome :
FIRMAMENT is a formal exploration of the heavens.
This collection presents God’s creation juxtaposed and contrasted by man-made artifacts on earth ; light posts, power lines, and rigid geometric grounded elements. These constructs inadvertently point the way upwards and towards the unreachable glory of God’s work : The clouds, the colorful hues of the passing day, the natural aesthetic in the elements of the sky. This is then compositionally contrasted, and thus highlighted in the inherent subordination of our works in comparison to those of the Creator. Such man made artifices leave one humbled when compared to natural wonders. Our place on Earth is to be in balance with our environment by not entirely overcoming it. Our sacred gift of perceiving this endowed splendor forming a closed loop as the observers of the observer.
