Bride of Christ
Revelation 19:7–9
Let us rejoice and exult and give him the glory,
for the marriage of the Lamb has come,
and his Bride has made herself ready;
it was granted her to clothe herself
with fine linen, bright and pure”—
for the fine linen is the righteous deeds of the saints.
And the angel said to me, “Write this: Blessed are those who are invited to the marriage supper of the Lamb.” And he said to me, “These are the true words of God.”
The Bride of Christ is a biblical metaphor in Christian theology that describes the intimate, covenantal relationship between Jesus Christ (the Bridegroom) and the Christian Church (The Bride). The set of beliefs that use wedding imagery are known as bridal theology. The New Testament often portrays communion with Jesus as a marriage, and God's reign as a wedding banquet. In Catholic tradition the title "Bride of Christ" is used symbolically to mirror the Church's total dedication to Jesus.
This documentary photo-series explores the joyful devotion of the Catholic Church. The photographic process is undertaken utilizing a non-intrusive camera, with the upmost reverence, and with full participation by the author (who is a follower of the faith himself). The subjects span the gamut from: clergy, consecrated religious, laypeople, church architecture, religious imagery, as well as sacramentals and holy items.
